I’m not sure how things are in your neck of the woods but here in Phoenix, everyone I know is either getting sick or just got over being sick. I have been spared (so far). Anytime people around me start getting sick, I immediately step up my immunity game. There are three big natural cold/flu fighters that I swear help me not get sick, or if I do get sick – get better faster (and help me feel good while I do). They are…
If you know me personally, then you know that I am a huge fan of tea, especially green tea. I love it. It’s not only good for your immune system, but tastes good too.
My favorites for cold/flu season:
This tea is my go-to for when I’m not feeling well. I think it’s caffeine may be slightly higher than other green teas, and its bold green tea taste along with the lemongrass and spearmint give me a little energy kick. If I’m feeling remotely sick or bleh, I reach for this to make me feel better. And most of the time, it does!
Traditional Medicinals – Throat Coat
This one is just used when I’m sick and have a sore throat. It works amazingly well on sore throats. It really does coat it and soothe it so its not so dry and scratchy. I really like its naturally sweet flavor too.
2. Elderberry Syrup
I’m not sure when I first learned about elderberry syrup, it could have been from a Naturopath I see occasionally when I’m sick. But anyhoo, I really do think this helps prevent me from getting sick and helps me get better faster if I’m already sick. I’ve tried a few brands and so far the only one I like is Gaia Herbs. It’s a little pricey, so I usually buy online on Amazon. I take one teaspoon in the morning when I’m trying to prevent getting sick, and will bump it to two teaspoons a day if I actually do get sick.
3. Greens First
Oh Greens First, how I love you! I really need to do an official review of this someday. In short, Greens First is amazing. I’ve tried all sorts of “greens” powders, fruit powders, you name it. They all suck. Greens First doesn’t. It’s not too sweet, not too grassy, and isn’t grainy like some of those powders can be. It has a fresh taste to it that’s almost minty. Best of all, since I have been drinking it (almost) daily for about 4 years now, I have gone from getting 3-4 colds a year (I was ALWAYS getting sick) to one every year or every other year. I just don’t get sick much anymore. And when I do get sick, it’s usually because I got lazy and stopped drinking Greens First (seriously). So ya, I really love this stuff and can’t think of starting my morning without it now.
You can’t find Greens First in stores, it’s a distributor-based model so it’s sold by independent resellers but I buy mine on Amazon (it’s cheaper that way too). One tub will last a month.
So these are my ways I stay healthy during cold/flu season. What are yours?
